Sweden’s Nordic Air Defence secures €2.5M to accelerate Europe’s drone defence revolution

Stockholm-based Nordic Air Defence, a defence tech startup, has secured $3M (approximately €2.5M) in an expansion of its pre-seed funding round, bringing the total to $4.4M (approximately €3.7M).

The funding round was led by the venture capital firm Inflection, which also resulted in changes to the company’s board composition as it enters a crucial phase of its growth journey.

This expansion makes Nordic Air Defence’s pre-seed round one of the largest raised in the defense sector.

Nordic Air Defence CEO Karl Rosander says, “What were once imagined as future conflicts are happening right now. There can be no complacency: the world is rapidly changing, and Europe must create new industrial might and deliver defensive hardware at scale. Inflection recognises the urgency of the mission at hand and has invested in Nordic Air Defence; their investment brings us closer to bringing the Kreuger 100, our first product, to market and ultimately to the field. The race is on to deploy and have Nordic Air Defence providing protective cover. We must move fast in order to have an impact and save lives.”

The announcement comes around eight months after raising €1.2M in funding led by Norway’s SNÖ Ventures.

Senior hires

The company has announced an array of senior hires, bringing world-class expertise in drone systems, autonomous navigation, and advanced sensing.

Three new leaders will join Nordic Air Defence in pivotal roles:

Nicholas Högasten, appointed Head of Product, brings more than two decades of experience in imaging and sensing technology from Teledyne FLIR. After 18 years in California, Nicholas will relocate to Stockholm this summer.Dominic Surano joins as Director of Special Projects, after leading unmanned aerial systems development at Anduril Industries and spearheading key programmes at Insitu and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. Dominic will also be based in Stockholm.Bianca Otake comes onboard as Navigation Engineer. A KTH graduate, Bianca has spent the last five years working on autonomous driving at Einride.

The company’s board has been restructured to support this new chapter. The streamlined board includes:

Karl Rosander (NAD Co-founder)Gustav Wiberg (NAD Co-founder and Chair of Katla Aero)Dr Jonas Dromberg (Founder, Revalence Ventures)Hampus Särnbratt (EQT Ventures)

Leaving the board of Nordic Air Defence are Johan Ahlberg, Jan Gurander, Jörgen Bladh, and Erik Fredlund.

Rosander adds: “I would like to thank Johan, Jan, Jörgen, and Erik for their invaluable counsel and support in the earliest days of Nordic Air Defence. Their collective advice and experience enabled us to set a clear strategy as well as develop the business around our technology.

Nordic Air Defence: Developing high tech defensive solutions

Founded by Karl Rosander, a veteran in the tech industry, Nordic Air Defence is developing high-tech defensive solutions for both civilian and military use.

Nordic Air Defence emerged from stealth in September 2024 with the Kreuger 100, a battery-powered, lightweight drone interceptor platform designed for both civilian and military use.

Unlike conventional systems reliant on heavy hardware, the Kreuger 100 replaces much of the cost-intensive architecture with software, slashing production costs by a factor of ten.

Looking ahead, NAD plans to expand its product range to land, sea, and subsea applications, as well as broaden its global footprint.
