Wall Street expects a challenging quarter. QUALCOMM Incorporated reports fiscal third quarter 2026 results on July 29 after market close, with analysts surveyed for consensus forecasting earnings of $2.23 per share on revenue of $9.68 billion. The EPS estimate draws from 29 analysts, with projections spanning a wide range from $2.13 to $2.52. Revenue estimates similarly show dispersion, ranging from $9.48 billion to $10.54 billion, reflecting uncertainty around demand trends in the semiconductor industry.

Estimate revisions paint a deteriorating picture. Analyst sentiment has soured over the past three months, with EPS estimates drifting down 8.6% from $2.44 just 90 days ago to the current $2.23 consensus. The estimate has held flat over the past 30 days at $2.23, suggesting the downward revision cycle may have stabilized recently. This trajectory indicates analysts have been recalibrating their models lower as visibility into handset demand, automotive chip adoption, or other key end markets has become less favorable heading into the print.

Year-over-year comparisons show meaningful contraction. The consensus for $2.23 per share represents a decline of 19.5% versus the $2.77 reported in the year-ago quarter, while the revenue forecast of $9.68 billion marks a 6.6% decrease from last year’s $10.36 billion. The steeper earnings decline relative to revenue suggests margin pressure is compounding topline softness. In the year-ago quarter, QUALCOMM generated net income of $2.67 billion on a net margin of 25.8%, while operating income reached $2.76 billion with a 26.7% operating margin. Investors will be scrutinizing whether margin erosion has accelerated or if the company has found ways to protect profitability despite the revenue headwinds.

The stock enters earnings at elevated levels. Shares currently trade at $166.57, positioning investors to react to whether QUALCOMM can meet, exceed, or fall short of the now-lowered expectations. The stock’s setup heading into the report will determine whether any beat translates into upside or if positive results are already reflected in the current valuation.

Segment performance will reveal the underlying drivers. As a semiconductor company heavily exposed to smartphone handsets through its Snapdragon processors and licensing business, as well as growing exposure to automotive and IoT markets, QUALCOMM’s results will hinge on technology adoption cycles and device unit volumes. The breakdown between its QCT semiconductor business and QTL licensing segment will be critical, as licensing revenue tends to carry higher margins. Any commentary on 5G handset attach rates, premium tier mix, or share gains in Android flagship devices will provide texture beyond the headline numbers. The automotive pipeline and design win momentum will also draw focus as investors assess whether diversification efforts are gaining traction or remain too nascent to offset handset volatility.

Guidance will set the tone for the remainder of fiscal 2026. Beyond the third quarter results themselves, management’s outlook for the fiscal fourth quarter ending September will be pivotal. Investors will be parsing commentary on inventory levels in the channel, customer order patterns, and any signs of stabilization or further softness in key end markets. The trajectory of operating leverage and the company’s capital allocation priorities—including buyback activity and dividend policy—will also factor into the investment narrative as QUALCOMM navigates this more challenging environment.

What to Watch: Focus on the QCT and QTL segment split to assess where margin pressure is concentrated. Listen for management commentary on handset unit demand, premium device mix, and automotive design win momentum. Pay close attention to fiscal Q4 guidance, particularly whether revenue and margin outlook signals stabilization or continued pressure. Finally, track any updates on capital return programs and the company’s confidence in sustaining profitability amid revenue headwinds.
