Celebrate Murray’s 100th Birthday with Us!

Today would have been Murray Rothbard’s 100th birthday.

Murray Rothbard was a genius. Counting his contributions in economics, history, political philosophy, strategy, and even cultural commentary, he left this world so many incredible insights. One could spend years reading his work and still not complete it all.

What truly separated Murray from so many of his peers was his dedication to turning his ideas into action. It is that dedication that has always been at the core of the Mises Institute’s mission, and because of the generosity of our donors, Murray’s works are accessible to more people than ever before, in a variety of formats, and in many translations.

This year would have been his 100th birthday, and we are paying special tribute to his legacy all year long. While we would love to know what he would think of the world in 2026—the federal government plummeting, the corporate press increasingly neutered, alternative and even subversive content freely circulating—we are fortunate to have a global network of Rothbardians that continues his battle against the state.

Murray was fond of saying that in the battle for liberty, he was a short-term pessimist and a long-term optimist, and that the worst thing that could happen to any intellectual movement was to lose hope or, worse still, to sell out for short-term gain. That will never happen here. The Mises Institute shares Murray’s unquenchable belief in the eventual triumph of liberty.

That is why we are asking you for a donation to help us celebrate the Year of Rothbard at the Mises Institute. With your gift of $25 or more, you will receive a copy of The U.S. Founding: A Triumph of Liberty or Power?, an excerpt from Murray’s incredible treatise on American history, Conceived in Liberty.

It is appropriate that Murray’s 100th birthday corresponds with America’s 250th, as he always saw the American Revolution as one of history’s great libertarian moments.

Join us in celebrating Murray Rothbard’s birthday today. Donors of $100 or more, or who make a recurring donation of $9 a month, will become Mises Institute Members. All donors of $25 or more will receive our new booklet. You have our unending thanks for helping us continue Murray’s work.

—Lew Rockwell

*US donors will receive physical copies of the booklets. International donors will receive electronic copies.
