Union Pacific’s Q1 2026 Earnings: What to Expect
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LInkedIn

Valued at a market cap of $144 billion, Union Pacific Corporation (UNP) is a railroad company that offers transportation services. The Omaha, Nebraska-based company transports a diverse range of freight, including agricultural products, chemicals, energy commodities, industrial goods, and intermodal containers. It is expected to announce its fiscal Q1 earnings for 2026 before the market opens on Thursday, Apr. 23.

Before this event, analysts expect this railroad company to report a profit of $2.85 per share, up 5.6% from $2.70 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has topped Wall Street’s bottom-line estimates in two of the last four quarters, while missing on two other occasions. Its earnings of $2.86 per share in the previous quarter fell short of the forecasted figure by 1.4%.

For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect UNP to report a profit of $12.46 per share, up 6.9% from $11.66 per share in fiscal 2025. Furthermore, its EPS is expected to grow 7.5% year-over-year to $13.40 in fiscal 2027.

Shares of UNP have gained 3% over the past 52 weeks, considerably lagging both the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 16.4% return and the State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLI) 25.2% uptick over the same time period.

On Jan. 28, shares of UNP declined 2.1% after its weaker-than-expected Q4 earnings release. The company’s revenue remained flat year-over-year and came in at $6.1 billion, falling short of analyst estimates, mainly due to softer freight volumes. Additionally, its adjusted EPS of $2.86 missed consensus estimates of $2.90.

Wall Street analysts are moderately optimistic about UNP’s stock, with a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Among 24 analysts covering the stock, 16 recommend “Strong Buy,” one indicates a “Moderate Buy,” and seven suggest “Hold.” The mean price target for UNP is $276.14, indicating a 13.2% potential upside from the current levels.
