Find more information about your Louisiana income taxes below. Check your filing status and refund for any state.

Where’s my Louisiana State tax refund?

The Louisiana State Department of Revenue is where you can find your LA tax refund status. Check the status of your Louisiana tax refund using these resources.

Note: If your e-filed Louisiana return was completed correctly, you should receive your state refund within four weeks. For paper returns, it can take up to 14 weeks.

How long to get Louisiana tax refund?

You can expect to receive your Louisiana tax refund within 4 to 8 weeks after your return is accepted (assuming there are no issues with your return). The fastest way to get your refund is to e-file your Louisiana state income tax return and choose direct deposit. However, if your return is incorrect, incomplete, or you filed a paper return, the refund process can take longer.

How to check Louisiana tax refund?

You can check your refund online using the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on the Louisiana Department of Revenue’s website. To use the tool, you’ll need your Social Security number, tax year, filing status, and expected refund amount.

When does Louisiana release tax refunds?

Louisiana processes refunds after returns are received and accepted. While there’s no set issue date for all refunds, most e-filed refunds are issued within a few weeks of filing (paper returns may take several more weeks).Note that these are general guidelines. Timing may vary depending on the type of return and the volume of returns being processed by the state tax department at the time. If you have waited longer than the expected timeframe and still haven’t received your refund, use your state’s refund status tracking tool (linked above) or contact your state department of taxation using the contact info above.

Why is my Louisiana tax refund under manual review?

If your return contains errors, missing information, or is flagged for potential fraud, it may trigger a manual review. Manual reviews take longer to process, which can lead to delays in issuing your refund.

Why is my Louisiana tax refund being offset?

State refunds can be offset (reduced or withheld) if you owe certain debts, such as unpaid taxes or child support, defaulted student loans , or other unpaid court-ordered debts. Tax agencies have the authority to intercept refunds to pay for certain debts. If you believe your refund offset was done in error, contact your state tax department.

What day are Louisiana tax refunds deposited?

There isn’t a fixed “deposit day” for state refunds. Basically, once your refund is approved, Louisiana issues it as soon as possible. Direct deposit usually arrives faster than mailed checks, but the exact day varies depending on when you filed and how quickly your return is processed.

Louisiana Tax Brackets

All taxpayers who are full-time or part-time Louisiana residents, as well as all nonresidents who earn income in the state, must file a state income tax return if they are required to file a federal return. The 2025 tax brackets based on filing status for the state of Louisiana are:

Taxable Income – Single/Married Filing Separately/Head of HouseholdTaxable Income – Married Filing JointlyTax Rates$0-$12,500$0-$25,0003%$12,501-$50,000$25,001-$100,0003%$50,001 and over$100,001 and over3%

Louisiana 2025 tax changes

As of Jan. 1, 2025, Louisiana has switched to a flat tax rate of 3%. The standard deduction has increased for tax year 2025, and the exemption for retirement income has risen to $12,000, up from $6,000.

Louisiana exempt income

The state of Louisiana allows taxpayers to exclude several types of income from their federal adjusted gross income (AGI) to determine their taxable income. For example, Social Security benefits, teachers’ retirement benefits, and Louisiana state employees’ benefits are not taxable in the state.

Additionally, up to $12,000 in retirement income per person is not taxable for those 65 and older.

Louisiana tax deductions and exemptions

For Louisiana residents, the values for personal exemptions and the standard deduction are combined. The combined total for single filers and those married filing separately is $12,500. Filers who are filing joint returns or as head of household can deduct a total of $25,000.

Louisiana also lets taxpayers deduct the amount of their federal itemized deductions over the amount of the federal standard deduction from their adjusted gross income (AGI) to calculate their taxable income. Full-time and part-time residents can deduct school expenses incurred during their time living in the state. The deduction is limited to $6,000 in school expenses per dependent (not to exceed your taxable income). Louisiana taxpayers can deduct school expenses for dependents claimed in both the current or prior year.
