How Parish CPAs + Business Advisors Save 120 Hours Per Employee with Canopy
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LInkedIn

With Canopy, Parish CPAs + Business Advisors has built a workflow that keeps everyone aligned, whether they’re in the office, remote, or overseas. The team uses custom task templates to standardize processes like monthly bookkeeping and tax prep, while real-time task status tracking and the activity log give leadership visibility into progress without the need for constant check-ins.

Profile

Founded in late 2022 by Jeromy Bourque, CPA, and run alongside his wife, Emily Bourque, Director of Operations, Parish CPAs + Business Advisors (formally Jeromy T. Bourque, CPA) is a modern, cloud-based accounting firm based in Lafayette, Louisiana. The firm specializes in tax planning, bookkeeping, and fractional CFO services for service-based businesses and real estate investors.

What sets the firm apart is its balance of tech forward systems and a deeply human approach to service and efficiency. In just a few years, the firm has grown to a team of eight in-office employees, plus a hybrid CPA and one offshore contractor.

With clients in nearly every U.S. state, they’ve built a scalable operation that serves a younger, tech-savvy demographic who expect seamless virtual service.

Parish CPAs + Business  Advisors has used Canopy to simplify workflows, centralize client communication, and automate time-consuming tasks. By fully leveraging Canopy’s tools, Jeromy and Emily have created a lean, responsive firm that punches far above its weight.

Problem

Before implementing Canopy, Jeromy and his team were bogged down by manual, inefficient processes that drained valuable time, especially during tax season. Instead of focusing on high-level advisory work, the team was stuck in admin mode.

Pre-Canopy:

Time lost to email chaos: During tax season, Jeromy was spending the majority of his day forwarding client emails—attachments, questions, updates—to his team. It wasn’t scalable, and it wasn’t how he wanted to spend his time.

No centralized system: Like many firms, Jeromy and his team were juggling multiple platforms for communication, document sharing, and task tracking. Without a unified system, the team had to work extra hard to stay efficient and deliver consistent service.

Clients needed a better experience: Jeromy wanted a modern, mobile-friendly way for clients to interact with the firm, especially his younger, tech-savvy clients. If the client portal wasn’t intuitive, they wouldn’t use it, and the team would be back to chasing documents manually.

Jeromy did his homework. He compared Canopy, Karbon, and TaxDome, but ultimately chose Canopy for one key reason: a client portal that actually worked. It was clean, easy to use, and built to reduce friction for clients and staff alike.

Solution

When Jeromy launched his firm, he and his wife Emily had a one-week-old baby at home.

He didn’t just need practice management software; he needed a system that could help him balance being a new business owner and a new dad, without sacrificing client service.

With 15 years of accounting experience, Jeromy knew what he wanted to do differently this time around. He also knew that the right platform could help him build a smarter, more efficient firm from day one.

With Canopy, Parish CPAs + Business Advisors gained:

An all-in-one workflow hub: Jeromy’s team now manages tasks, tracks progress, and centralizes client communication in Canopy. There’s no more bouncing between tools or digging through email threads.
Automated client requests: Canopy handles document reminders and follow-ups automatically. As soon as a task is created, the related client request is already underway, which saves time and cuts down on delays.
A true partner in growth: From time tracking to engagements, plus a responsive support team, Canopy has become more than just software; it’s a platform that grows with them.

“We feel confident using Canopy because when something’s frustrating or not working right, support actually helps. Our rep has been great—quick to respond and connects us with the right people. That lets us reassure our clients, too.” – Emily Bourque, Operations Manager

Result

120 hours saved per team member

By eliminating email forwarding and automating client requests, Parish CPAs + Business Advisors has reclaimed serious time. Each team member now saves over three weeks of work annually, time they can reinvest in serving more clients and delivering higher-value work.

“On a per-person average, I’d have to say at least three weeks of time. That’s the time we’re able to save and spend on more clients and more customized service.” – Jeromy Bourque, CPA, Owner

Nationwide growth

Thanks to Canopy’s fully digital client experience, Jeromy’s firm isn’t limited by geography. Because clients don’t have to drop off paperwork or schedule in-person meetings, the firm is able to service clients in nearly every state, and the firm doesn’t waste time scanning, mailing, or chasing documents.

“Canopy lets us work with clients in other states without ever meeting in person. Everything’s virtual, which helps us connect with younger clients who expect mobile apps, easy uploads, and a modern experience.”

– Emily Bourque, Operations Manager

Stronger team collaboration

With Canopy, Parish CPAs + Business Advisors has built a workflow that keeps everyone aligned, whether they’re in the office, remote, or overseas. The team uses custom task templates to standardize processes like monthly bookkeeping and tax prep, while real-time task status tracking and the activity log give leadership visibility into progress without the need for constant check-ins.

Centralized file storage and client communication make it easy for anyone, whether it’s Emily in operations or an offshore contractor, to quickly access the information they need, respond to client questions, and keep work moving forward.

“It helps me be able to see everyone’s status and answer questions for clients no matter who’s working on the project… we have this kind of documentation that we saved through Canopy.” -Jeromy Bourque, CPA, Owner

The right clients only

With a fully booked roster, Jeromy isn’t scrambling for business; he’s curating it. Thanks to the time saved through automation and streamlined operations in Canopy, Jeromy and his team can be selective about who the firm works with. If a prospective client resists using the portal, insists on paper documents, or doesn’t align with their digital-first model, they simply say no. Instead, they focus on serving tech-forward, growth-minded businesses that value efficiency and virtual collaboration.

This intentional client filtering has helped the firm build a loyal, ideal client base that values the same things they do: responsiveness, technology, and transparency.

“If you don’t adapt to new technology—whether it’s AI, cloud tools, or anything else—you won’t survive. Being smaller lets us move fast, make changes, and stay ahead of the curve. That’s a big advantage over legacy firms stuck in clunky systems like Thomson Reuters or CCH, where nothing ever evolves. Canopy’s flexibility helps us stand out.”

– Jeromy Bourque, CPA, Owner
