12 Benefits of the Atmos Rewards Summit Card

NerdWallet rating

NerdWallet’s ratings are determined by our editorial team. The scoring formula incorporates coverage options, customer experience, customizability, cost and more.

Here’s what you get with the card.

Unique benefits

The Atmos Summit card stands out among other cards in its class with three key perks.

1. Global Companion Awards

Atmos Summit cardholders can potentially get two Global Companion Awards per year. Depending on how many points a flight costs, this benefit could allow you to fly someone for free — twice.

Every card anniversary, Atmos Summit cardholders automatically receive a 25,000-point Global Companion Award. Cardholders can get another Global Companion Award worth 100,000 points by spending $60,000 in an anniversary year.

Both awards are applied as a discount on the points price of a flight and may be redeemed for any service class on any flight in Alaska’s full network, including eligible international partners.

2. Rewards

The Atmos Summit is the first airline card to earn bonus rewards — 3 points per $1, to be exact — on foreign purchases, including purchases made in a foreign currency. This rewards category makes the card a great companion for international travel.

The card also earns 3x points on Hawaiian and Alaska purchases, and dining. Eligible Bank of America® account holders get a 10% points boost on all purchases.

3. Travel delay credit

Another rare perk for an airline card, the Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® credit card offers a travel delay credit for travelers whose flight, purchased directly on AlaskaAir.com and paid for with their Summit card, is delayed more than two hours or cancelled within 24 hours of scheduled departure. The $50 voucher is automatically credited to the card account and may be spent at the cardholder’s discretion. Note, though, that the voucher is only valid for 48 hours, and any remaining amount will be forfeited.

Cardholders who need to reschedule same-day flights receive waived change fees.

Flight perks

The Atmos Summit couldn’t call itself a premium airline card without a host of flight-related perks. True to form, it has several.

4. In-flight discount

Receive a 20% discount, in the form of a statement credit, on purchases made aboard an Alaska or Hawaiian Airlines flight, which includes food, drinks and Wi-Fi.

5. Free checked bags

Cardholders and up to six passengers on the same reservation can check their first bag for free, which normally costs $35. This benefit applies to Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines flights only.

6. TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit

When you pay for the TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee with your Atmos Summit card, you’ll receive up to a $120 statement credit to cover that expense. The credit renews every four years.

7. Lounge passes

Cardholders receive eight Alaska lounge passes annually, two per quarter. One pass grants lounge access to one adult and up to two children under 21. Passes expire at the end of the quarter in which they’re issued, so it’s not possible to “bank” them for later use.

8. Waived award ticket fees

The Atmos Summit card can save you up to $25 per person on every round-trip flight when using points to book with a partner airline.

Spending-dependent perks

The more you spend with the Atmos Summit card, the more you stand to gain.

9. Welcome offer

New cardholders can receive the following welcome bonus: Earn 100,000 bonus points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award with this offer. To qualify, spend $6,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.

If you can hit the spend requirement, you’ll get a huge cache of points that can be redeemed for several free flights.

10. Accelerated path to status

Spending moves you closer to status within the Atmos Rewards loyalty program. Cardholders will earn one elite status point per $2 spent, plus 10,000 status points every account anniversary. At that rate, and factoring in the automatic 10,000-status point boost, you’d need to spend $20,000 on the Atmos Summit card to achieve Silver status, the lowest tier within Atmos Rewards.

Redemption flexibility

11. Hotel transfer partners

Of course, points earned with the Atmos Summit card can be redeemed for flights on Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, but other options exist. You can use your points to book car rentals, hotel stays, or you can transfer points to one of Alaska’s travel partners.

Points transfer at the following ratios:
