More people than ever are relying on getting their Social Security payment on time in order to make ends meet. If you are worried about getting your SSDI, SSI, or other Social Security payment in December, don’t worry. The December 2025 Social Security payment schedule is available now.

If you are currently receiving SSDI, SSI, or any kind of Social Security benefit that benefit will be paid on time in December 2025. Knowing when your Social Security benefit payment for December will arrive can help you stretch your benefit payment throughout the month.

The Social Security Administration has many different benefit programs, and some of those benefits are paid on set dates. The date that your Social Security payment is made depends on what type of Social Security benefit you’re receiving and when your birth date is.

Retirement Benefits

Anyone that has paid into the Social Security system can start drawing Social Security retirement benefits at the age of 62. You don’t have to start taking your retirement at 62, but you can.

However, it’s recommended that you wait until the maximum retirement age to start drawing benefits if you can. The longer you wait, the higher your monthly benefit will be.

To get the largest possible monthly benefit amount you must wait until you are 70 to start drawing your retirement benefits.

To qualify for Social Security retirement benefits you must have worked and paid into the Social Security system for at least 10 years. And you also must have earned a minimum of 40 work credits during that time.

If you were a homemaker who stayed at home to raise children or case for a spouse you may can draw retirement benefits based on your spouse’s income, if your spouse worked outside the home and received a paycheck.

If you are divorced and didn’t remarry and you were married for 10 years or more you can receive Social Security retirement benefits based on your former spouse’s earnings.

If you’re over 62, unable to work because of a disability, and don’t need to take your retirement benefits to get by.Instead, you can apply for SSDI, Social Security disability, instead of starting retirement benefits right away. SSDI can help cover your living expenses until you reach 70. At that point, you can switch to retirement benefits and get the full amount you’re entitled to.

Disability Benefits (SSDI)

Anyone who used to work, but can’t work now because of a disability can receive SSDI from the SSA. Social Security disability benefits are a good option for people who can’t work but aren’t old enough yet to claim retirement benefits.Anyone who has had a job and earned work credits can apply for SSDI, although the approval process can take months if there are a lot of current applications.

If you do have to wait a long time to get approved, you will receive a lump sum of back pay when your application is approved. If your application is denied, you have the right to file an appeal.

,p>You can boost the likelihood of getting approved on your first try by submitting thorough medical records that clearly prove you’re unable to work. It’s also important to include evidence showing that you meet the medical criteria listed in the SSA’s Blue Book.

Working with a Social Security disability lawyer can reduce mistakes on your application, such as missing important deadlines or incorrectly filling out required paperwork.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

SSI is a different type of disability benefit that helps people who were never able to work because they were born with a disability or became disabled in childhood. If you have a child that is disabled and you are low-income you can apply for SSI on behalf of your child.

When you apply for SSI on behalf of your child you must submit financial proof that your total household income falls below the cap set by the SSA or your child won’t qualify. Documents like your tax return, your W-2s, or bank statements can be used to prove your household income.

Once your child turns 18 they will need to re-apply for SSI in their own names since at 18 they are considered adults.

Survivor Benefits

If your spouse has passed away, you and your children might be eligible to receive survivor benefits based on your spouse’s earnings record to help cover household expenses until the children become adults.

If you are disabled and have lost your spouse, you can start receiving survivor benefits at age 50. Spouses who aren’t disabled can begin receiving survivor benefits at 60.

Additionally, if the deceased worker’s elderly parents depended on them for at least half of their financial support, those parents may also be eligible for survivor benefits.

Children who have a deceased parent who worked and paid into Social Security can collect survivor benefits until they turn 18. If they are still in high school but they are over 18 they can receive benefits until they graduate. Adult children who became disabled before the age of 22 may also qualify.

The Social Security payment schedule for December 2025 might look complicated at first, but it’s easy to understand once you see how the payment schedule works.

The payment dates depend on your birthdate, the type of benefit you’re receiving, and the way that the days of the month fall.

SSI is always paid on the first of the month, unless the first day of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday. If the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be made on the business day before the weekend or holiday.

December 1st, 2025 falls on a Monday, so if you’re receiving SSI you will receive your December 2025 SSI payment on Monday, December 1st.

The other types of Social Security benefits are always paid on a Wednesday. The Wednesday that you receive your benefits depends on your date of birth.

Social Security benefit payment dates for December 2025 fall on:

Monday, December 1st- SSI
Wednesday, December 10th
Wednesday, December 17th
Wednesday, December 24th

Your Social Security benefits in December 2025 will be deposited into your bank account or deposited on your SSA Direct Express card on one of those days, depending on your birth date and the type of benefit you receive.

People that are receiving Social Security benefits in December that are not SSI will receive their December 2025 Social Security benefits on these dates based on their birth date:

Wednesday, December 10th – If your birthdate is the 1st-10th of the month.
Wednesday, December 17th- If your birthdate is the 11th-20th of the month.
Wednesday, December 24th – If your birthdate is 21st -31st of the month.

Your account information can be accessed anytime by going to your MySSA account online. Your payment amount and the payment date should be listed for you there, and you can contact the SSA if you have any questions.

Because of the way that SSI is paid, anyone that is receiving SSI in December 2025 will receive a second SSI payment on Wednesday, December 31st. That second payment is your January 2026 SSI payment. January 1st, 2026 is a Federal holiday, so SSI payments for January 2026 will be deposited on December 31st.

June Social Security Payment Dates for 2024

All SSA payments are now made electronically. You can choose to have your Social Security benefit payment deposited into a checking or savings account, or you can choose to use a Direct Express debit card issued through the SSA.

Sometimes banks or credit unions put a hold on electronic deposits, which can mean that you can’t access the full amount of your payment right away.

These holds can be up to five business days. Check with your bank to see if there is a hold placed on incoming deposits. If there is a hold, you may want to switch to having your benefit deposited onto a Direct Express card.

Funds deposited to a Direct Express card are available immediately, with no holds. You can use the card like a debit or credit card to withdraw cash or pay for purchases. You can sign up for a Direct Express card through your MySSA account on the SSA’s website.

If you have questions about what date your Social Security benefit payment will be deposited into your account or onto your Direct Express card you can always check your account on the SSA’s website. You can also call or email the SSA directly and ask about your payment date.

Factors that likely will affect Social Security benefit payment dates for December 2025.

Grocery costs have skyrocketed over the last few months, and many people are struggling to stretch their benefits as far as possible, especially if they are no longer receiving assistance like SNAP benefits in addition to Social Security benefits. If you’re looking for ways to make your benefit money go further use these tips:

Buy a little extra each time you shop. Buy some small items like canned chicken or tuna, pasta, pasta sauce, or soup. That way you can stock your cupboard and when the money runs out you will have enough food to get through the rest of your month.
Paying your bills late can mean high fees, which can eat up your money. Put your bills on autopay so that they won’t be paid late and you won’t accrue fees. Or, ask for budget billing where the cost is broken into 12 equal monthly payments for the year so that your bills will always be the same amounts.
Shop smart by planning meals ahead of time, using coupons, and checking sales flyers for local stores to make sure you’re getting the best possible prices. Buy in bulk if you can. If you can’t afford a bulk store membership, see if they offer a discount for people on fixed incomes.
Find a local food pantry to fill in the gaps. If you find that your groceries are running out before you get your monthly Social Security benefit a food pantry can be a great place to get some groceries for free or low cost.

There are lots of online groups and communities for people who are living on Social Security benefits where people share tips and tricks for making that benefit money stretch as far as possible that December be helpful.

You should always receive your 2025 SSI payment on the 1st of the month, or the business day before the first if the first falls on a weekend or holiday.

In December 2025 SSI payments will be deposited on Monday, December 1st. You will receive January 2026 SSI funds on Wednesday, December 31st, because January 1st is a holiday.

If you can’t work because of a disability you should apply for SSDI as soon as you can so that you don’t end up waiting a long time for a decision. Working with a disability attorney is a good way to make the process easier.

A disability attorney can help you understand the application process, how to fill out the application documents, and advise you what documentation you need to include with your application to increase the chances of approval.

Disability attorneys don’t get paid until your application is approved. And their fee is paid by the SSA directly, so you don’t ever have to pay out of pocket or up front.

Fill out a Free Case Evaluation now to get connected with a participating disability attorney who can answer your questions and help you start your application for Social Security benefits.
