Summary

Heard of the new subscription service, Yahoo Finance Premium? This new service builds on the well known Yahoo Finance and is made for retail investors. With portfolio management and more, is Yahoo Finance Premium worth the price premium? Read our thorough review to find out the truth.

Yahoo Finance Premium is a subscription service that offers deeper access to the stock research and handy financial tools that Yahoo Finance is widely known for. The platform recently introduced a new charting and analysis interface called AlphaSpace, available with the top-tier Gold plan, so I thought now would be a good time to take a closer look at Yahoo Finance Premium.

In my Yahoo Finance Premium review, I’ll dive deep into AlphaSpace and all the other tools this subscription offers to help you decide if it’s right for you.

About Yahoo Finance Premium

Yahoo Finance has been around since 1997 and it’s one of the most widely used free platforms for market news and portfolio tracking. Yahoo Finance Premium is a newer offering that launched in 2019, building on the free platform with more advanced portfolio analysis, stock research, and market data. The service has continued to add features, the most recent of which is a professional-grade stock analysis suite called AlphaSpace.

Yahoo Finance Premium Pricing

Yahoo Finance Premium offers three pricing tiers:

Bronze ($9.95/month): Includes advanced portfolio analysis tools and removes ads across Yahoo Finance.

Silver ($24.95/month): Adds stock picks and research reports, fair value analysis, and premium news from the Financial Times and MT Newswire.

Gold ($49.95/month): Adds access to AlphaSpace, 40 years of downloadable market data, premium stock screens, and a technical charting platform.

Yahoo Finance Premium Pricing

You’ll get 20% when you pay annually, and Yahoo Finance is currently offering a 7-day free trial of the Gold tier to promote the AlphaSpace launch.

This pricing isn’t cheap, but it’s worth noting that the Silver and Gold tiers include the latest stock recommendations and research from the Motley Fool’s Stock Advisor newsletter—which costs $199 per year on its own.

Yahoo Finance Premium Features

AlphaSpace

AlphaSpace is the newest addition to Yahoo Finance Premium, and it’s a big one. This analysis platform is designed to stand on its own and offer professional-level insights into individual stocks. It offers technical charting, customizable layouts, fundamental data, real-time news, and portfolio tracking.

Yahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Markets DashboardYahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Markets Dashboard

AlphaSpace’s default dashboard offers a quick window into the market. You can chart any ticker, view index and stock performance across gainer, loser, and trending lists, and get caught up on the biggest headlines from Yahoo Finance. The charting panel isn’t especially advanced, but it offers candlesticks down to the one-minute timeframe and nearly 50 popular technical indicators.

If you want to dig deeper, an analysis dashboard lets you zoom into a single stock to view fundamental and valuation metrics, business segment performance, and company-specific news from multiple sources. The news dashboard offers company-specific and market-wide feeds, plus a video feed of the live Yahoo Finance news broadcast.

Yahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Analysis DashboardYahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Analysis Dashboard

AlphaSpace also comes with pre-built dashboards for market themes including Mag7 stocks, crypto, tech, financial services, energy, and more. I didn’t find these to be especially helpful, though. They essentially function like sector-specific watchlists with shortcuts to individual stocks, with no way to track the performance of an entire theme at once.

The more valuable feature within AlphaSpace is the ability to create your own custom dashboards. You can add widgets for charts, heatmaps, watchlists, gainers and losers, company fundamentals, and Yahoo Finance live. You can also add a stock screener. The available filters are primarily fundamentals-based (e.g. fair value, valuation ratios, and ownership) and you don’t get access to the pre-made screens available with Yahoo Finance’s main screener. But it’s still a nice feature to have within AlphaSpace.

Yahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Custom DashboardYahoo Finance Premium AlphaSpace Custom Dashboard

Another feature worth mentioning within AlphaSpace is the AI chatbot, Yahoo Scout. This did a nice job answering questions about companies’ financials and business details, and it was able to pull detailed data directly from Yahoo Finance. However, I was disappointed to find that it doesn’t provide in-line references for any of its answers, so I felt compelled to double-check everything it told me.

Overall, I liked AlphaSpace and think it’s a great value-add for active investors and swing traders who are already benefiting from the other features in Yahoo Finance Premium’s Gold tier. But none of the features felt groundbreaking or especially actionable, with the possible exception of the Yahoo Scout chatbot. There’s no easy way to compare stocks within the same industry, for example, and no stock grades or ratings to help you surface opportunities. The customizable dashboards felt comparable to what you can get for free with FinViz or Tradytics.

🏆 Top Rated Services 🏆

Our team has reviewed over 300 services. These are our favorites:

Charting Platform

Yahoo Finance Premium offers another technical charting platform separately from AlphaSpace, and it’s quite a bit more in-depth. It includes around 100 technical indicators, the ability to annotate earnings and dividends on your charts, and a nice set of drawing tools. The display felt cleaner than TradingView, although that’s in part because there are far fewer customization options. The chart types are also quite limited—there are no Heikin-Ashi, Renko, or volume candles, for example.

Yahoo Finance Premium Technical ChartsYahoo Finance Premium Technical Charts

One thing I did like is that Yahoo Finance can automatically annotate technical patterns on your charts, including moving average crosses, bullish and bearish RSI or MACD signals, double tops and bottoms, and more. This is potentially really powerful, but it felt like the platform stopped short of making this feature great. There’s no way to toggle certain patterns on or off, and in fact I couldn’t find a full list of all the patterns that Yahoo Finance tracks. The only parameter you can change is whether the charts display short-term, medium-term, or long-term patterns.

Stock Research and Screeners

Yahoo Finance Premium includes detailed fundamental and financial data about thousands of US and international stocks. Silver and Gold subscribers get access to research reports from Argus and Morningstar, which can be very helpful for doing a deep dive into a specific company or its peers before making an investment. Having two sources for reports is also an advantage since you can get two different analysts’ takes on the same company.

One of my favorite features about Yahoo Finance Premium is the fair value analysis, which provides a simple way of looking at whether a company is over or undervalued. You also get a dividend score, hiring score, and insider sentiment score, all of which are available in the stock screener so you can filter for potential outperformers.

Yahoo Finance Premium Fair ValueYahoo Finance Premium Fair Value

The stock screener itself offers a vast array of fundamental, valuation, and performance filters. It’s on par with the Seeking Alpha screener—one of my favorite screeners for active investors—and it similarly comes with a set of pre-made screens that can be really useful. Examples of pre-made screens include “Morningstar 5-star Stocks,” “Undervalued Wide Moat Stocks,” and “Upside Breakout Stocks.”

Yahoo Finance Premium Stock ScreenerYahoo Finance Premium Stock Screener

With a Gold subscription, you also get access to 40 years’ worth of downloadable market data (including daily price data), which is terrific for building your own models or backtests.

Stock Recommendations

Yahoo Finance Premium also comes with access to stock recommendations from StockStory and the Motley Fool Stock Advisor. You don’t get full access to these services, but you can see the most recent recommendations along with the research reports that accompany them.

Yahoo Finance Premium Stock PicksYahoo Finance Premium Stock Picks

This is a big deal considering Stock Advisor’s strong track record of outperforming the S&P 500. You can see all picks going back to June 2025 and you get both of Stock Advisor’s two new monthly picks each month. While you miss out on all the additional features that come with a standalone Stock Advisor subscription, having access to the portfolio like this can save you another subscription and pay for a significant chunk of Yahoo Finance Premium’s fee.

Financial News

In addition to all of Yahoo Finance’s free content, a Gold subscription gives you access to stories from MT Newswires and the Financial Times. The downside is that you can’t directly access these news sites, so the only option is to scroll through a feed of headlines with no way to search or filter stories. The access is a great perk, but it seems like Yahoo Finance hasn’t put in the effort to make this feature more usable.

Yahoo Finance Premium Financial NewsYahoo Finance Premium Financial News

Is Yahoo Finance Premium Easy to Use?

Yahoo Finance Premium is fairly easy to use, although I’d love to see a more streamlined user interface. Premium tools are sprinkled throughout the Yahoo Finance platform, so it’s not always clear what’s premium analysis and what’s available to everyone for free. It can also be challenging to find certain features, like the stock screener, since they’re buried deep in drop-down menus alongside free Yahoo Finance research tools. Thankfully, AlphaSpace has its own button at the top of the platform, so it’s always quick to access.

Yahoo Finance Platform Differentiators

None of the features that Yahoo Finance Premium offers are truly groundbreaking. You can find similar stock screeners from FinViz and Seeking Alpha, more advanced charting tools from TradingView, and deeper stock research from Morningstar.

What sets this platform apart is that it brings together the best features of several of these services in one place. Yahoo Finance Premium gives you access to Morningstar stock ratings and reports, Motley Fool stock recommendations, and Financial Times news in addition to a wide range of built-in features. That’s great for active investors and swing traders who want a single financial hub to conduct research and monitor the markets. It’s also ideal for investors looking to reduce subscriptions while still getting the most essential features of several different platforms.

What Type of Trader Is Yahoo Finance Premium Best For?

Yahoo Finance Premium is geared mainly towards active, self-directed investors. The research, screeners, and stock recommendations it provides are fundamentals-focused, and the only nod to technical analysis comes from the platform’s charting interface. Swing traders might also benefit from Yahoo Finance Premium thanks to the stock picks, news, and AlphaSpace analysis hub, but the platform isn’t a standalone trading solution.

Is Yahoo Finance Premium Worth It?

Yahoo Finance Premium is pricey, especially if you’re considering the Gold subscription for access to AlphaSpace and premium stock screens. However, it’s worth noting that Yahoo Finance Premium could save you from having to purchase several other subscriptions, including to Motley Fool Stock Advisor, Morningstar, and the Financial Times. That alone can make Yahoo Finance Premium worthwhile for a lot of investors.

That said, there are some key features lost in Yahoo Finance Premium’s bundling, like Morningstar’s Portfolio X-Ray analysis and Stock Advisor’s monthly ranking list. Yahoo Finance Premium also has work to do on its charting tools and the AlphaSpace platform. If you want best-in-class features, you’re probably better off signing up for individual services rather than using Yahoo Finance Premium’s all-in-one approach.
