Dreamhaven and its internal studio, Secret Door, have announced the launch of their new tactical co-op adventure game, Sunderfolk, set to release on April 23, 2025. The game, inspired by tabletop gaming, will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch for $50. Players can enjoy a free, exclusive first-look demo of Sunderfolk on the Nvidia GeForce Now cloud gaming service from March 25 through April 7.
The demo showcases the early experience of the game, with all playable characters unlocked, allowing players to experiment with different combinations and strategies. Sunderfolk features a unique interface that lets teams plan their strategy on a big screen and execute moves using smartphones. Mike Morhaime, cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment and former president, emphasized that the game is a “love letter to the genre” of tabletop gaming, offering a modern twist on traditional tabletop experiences.
“Hopefully, there’s something for everyone in there. The thing that really attracted us to these games is that they are all games you can enjoy with other players,” said Mike Morhaime.
Sunderfolk demo on GeForce Now
Amy Morhaime added, “We didn’t plan for it to happen simultaneously. It organically came together, and these are games that we just love to share with people. If you specifically look at something like Sunderfolk, we really wanted it to be about playing with each other.”
Chris Sigaty, studio head of Secret Door, said, “Our goal with Sunderfolk is to leverage modern technology to make game night something everyone can enjoy.
In Sunderfolk, players choose from animal characters and must team up to combat demonic enemies in a turn-based, tactical manner.
The game aims to bridge the gap between tabletop veterans and casual players in a charming fantasy setting. Dreamhaven also introduced other games during the showcase: Wildgate, a sci-fi battle royale from Moonshot studio, and third-party games Mechabellum and Lynked. “The formula is to release games we’re excited to play ourselves,” Mike said.
“These games offer some unique genre mashup or unique gameplay experience. I don’t think there’s anything like Sunderfolk.”
Sunderfolk’s key features include the ability to play on a big-screen TV with smartphones, rediscover classic game night fun, and embark on an adventure with unique heroes. When it launches on April 23, 2025, the game promises to bring a fresh, accessible spin to the traditional tabletop gaming experience.
