Many investors trade stocks daily thanks to mobile apps and online brokerages. With such easy access, it’s tempting to think trading is available 24/7. But holidays can interrupt normal schedules. Since Thanksgiving 2025 falls on Thursday, November 27, here’s what you need to know about market hours.

Is the Stock Market Open on Thanksgiving 2025?

No. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025.

No trading activity will occur during the holiday. Orders placed on Thanksgiving will not execute until markets reopen. Trading resumes on Friday, November 28, 2025 (Black Friday), but the session will be shortened, closing at 1:00 PM EST.

What About International Markets?

Foreign exchanges generally remain open since Thanksgiving is not an internationally recognized holiday. Traders can still monitor global activity, but U.S. trades won’t settle until domestic markets reopen.

Is the Bond Market Open on Thanksgiving 2025?

No. The U.S. bond market also closes on Thanksgiving Day.

On Black Friday, November 28, 2025, the bond market will operate on a shortened schedule, closing at 2:00 PM EST. These hours typically follow recommendations from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Stock Market Holiday Schedule for 2025

Here’s the official NYSE/NASDAQ holiday calendar for 2025:

New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, January 20
Presidents Day – Monday, February 17
Good Friday – Friday, April 18
Memorial Day – Monday, May 26
Juneteenth – Thursday, June 19
Independence Day – Friday, July 4
Labor Day – Monday, September 1
Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 27
Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Early Closures

Black Friday – Friday, November 28 (closes at 1:00 PM EST)
Christmas Eve – Wednesday, December 24 (closes at 1:00 PM EST)

How Does the Stock Market Perform During Thanksgiving Week?

Looking at 10 years of performance data from The Motley Fool, we have some insights into how the stock market typically performs during the week of Thanksgiving. For the most part, the market saw gains during the holiday week over the last decade. The only years with reported losses were 2018 and 2022.

If you’re planning trades around Thanksgiving 2025, remember: no U.S. stock or bond trading on November 27. Activity resumes the next day, but with shortened hours. Planning ahead ensures your trades don’t get delayed during this holiday-shortened week.

Do you find the holiday closure disruptive, or do you use it as a chance to step back and reassess your portfolio?
