PPG|EPS Est $2.25 (18 analysts)|Rev Est $4.36B|Reports 2026-07-28 AMC

Wall Street is forecasting modest growth when PPG Industries reports second-quarter results on July 28 after the closing bell. The consensus among 18 analysts calls for earnings of $2.25 per share on revenue of $4.36 billion. Estimates span a relatively tight range, with EPS projections from $2.20 to $2.32 and revenue estimates between $4.24 billion and $4.50 billion, suggesting analyst views are reasonably aligned heading into the print.

Estimate revisions tell a story of caution. The consensus EPS figure has held steady over the past month at $2.25, but the 90-day view shows a slight downward drift from $2.26, reflecting a modest 0.4% reduction in analyst expectations. This pattern of minor cuts over the longer timeframe suggests the specialty chemicals environment has presented headwinds that prompted analysts to temper their outlooks, even as near-term views have stabilized.

Year-over-year comparisons point to measured expansion. The $2.25 consensus represents a 1.4% increase from the $2.22 per share PPG earned in the second quarter of 2025, while the $4.36 billion revenue target implies 3.8% growth over last year’s $4.20 billion. A year ago, PPG generated $450.0 million in net income and posted a 10.7% net margin. The profitability benchmark provides context for evaluating whether PPG can maintain or expand its margin profile while delivering top-line growth in what has been a mixed demand environment for coatings and specialty materials.

The stock trades at $116.5 as investors await clarity on volume trends and pricing dynamics. PPG’s performance has been shaped by the interplay between raw material costs, pricing actions, and end-market demand across its architectural coatings, industrial coatings, and automotive refinish segments. The company’s ability to balance these factors while managing its cost structure will be critical to determining whether it can sustain the operating leverage implied by the year-over-year earnings growth target that slightly outpaces revenue expansion.

PPG’s track record on earnings surprises will influence how the market interprets any deviation from consensus. Companies in the specialty chemicals sector often face quarterly volatility driven by customer destocking cycles, construction activity levels, and automotive production schedules. Whether PPG has historically beaten or missed estimates—and by what magnitude—shapes investor positioning ahead of the release and determines how much upside or downside is already reflected in the current stock price.

Margin trajectory deserves close attention given the modest gap between revenue and earnings growth rates. With revenue expected to grow 3.8% while EPS advances just 1.4%, the implied math suggests either margin compression, a higher tax rate, increased share count, or other factors dampening the earnings leverage. Comparing the upcoming quarter’s profitability metrics to the year-ago net margin of 10.7% will reveal whether cost inflation, mix shifts, or competitive pricing pressures are constraining PPG’s ability to convert sales growth into bottom-line expansion.

Segment-level performance and geographic trends will provide texture beyond the headline numbers. PPG operates across diverse end markets, and investor focus will center on whether architectural coatings demand is stabilizing, industrial volumes are recovering, and whether aerospace or automotive refinish businesses are contributing to growth. Management commentary on order books, inventory levels at channel partners, and pricing sustainability across regions will offer signals about the company’s trajectory into the second half of 2026.

What to Watch: Investors should focus on operating margin performance, segment-level volume and pricing trends, raw material cost trajectory, free cash flow generation, and any updates to full-year guidance. Management’s commentary on architectural demand in key geographies and industrial end-market recovery will be critical for assessing whether the modest growth outlook can accelerate in subsequent quarters.
