SunCoke Energy (NYSE:SXC) said Thursday that Michael Rippey plans to retire as CEO and as a board member, and Katherine Gates has been appointed as his successor, effective May 15.
Gates will retain her current position as President, serving as both President and CEO upon her promotion, and she will remain a member of the board.
Rippey has served as SunCoke’s (SXC) CEO since 2017 and was President and CEO during 2017-22; previously, he was President and CEO of ArcelorMittal USA during 2006-14, and served as the steelmaker’s Chairman in 2014-15.
Gates joined SunCoke (SXC) in 2013, was appointed Senior VP General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer in 2015, and was named President and appointed to the board, effective January 1, 2023.
