Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will open its first retail store in Malaysia in June, amid efforts to boost its presence in Southeast Asia and potentially slowly reduce its reliance on China.
The U.S. tech giant said the Apple Store will be located at The Exchange TRX mall in Kuala Lumpur and will open on June 22.
The company already has retail stores in India, Singapore and Thailand.
Last month, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was on a tour of Southeast Asia, where he visited Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore. The trip could be an effort to boosts its supply chain endeavors outside of China, and also capture the growing Southeast Asian market.
Apple had started manufacturing of some Macs in Malaysia about two years ago, according to a report by Bloomberg News. Meanwhile, the company is also producing some iPhones in India and AirPods in Vietnam.
