Racing giant NASCAR filed a trademark infringement lawsuit Monday against undisclosed sellers of unauthorized merchandise.

The motorsport mammoth alleges in the suit that an undisclosed number of companies have infringed on its trademarks in violation of the Lanham Act, the federal statute governing trademark law, by selling unauthorized merchandise through fake e-commerce storefronts.

NASCAR identifies the unidentified defendants as “individuals, corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and unincorporated associations,” according to coverage by Courthouse News Service.

Concluding its own investigation, NASCAR said it found evidence of an illegal counterfeiting and infringement scheme. It accuses the defendants of blurring its trademarks on their products and creating “numerous” aliases to evade the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
