Investment duration plays a big role in SIP planning. A longer tenure reduces the monthly amount you need to invest, while a shorter tenure increases it. 

For example, to build a corpus of ₹1 crore at an expected return of 12% over 20 years, you need to invest around ₹10,871 per month. However, if the investment period reduces to 15 years, the required monthly SIP increases to approximately ₹21,011. A mutual fund calculator simplifies choosing an investment timeline that suits your income and financial commitments.

Evaluating Return Scenarios

Returns from mutual funds are market-linked and can vary. The calculator lets you compare outcomes under different return rates, say 6%, 8%, 10%, or 12%. This gives you a realistic picture of best-case and conservative scenarios. 

For example, to accumulate ₹10 lakh in 10 years, the SIP may be ₹6,100 at 6%, ₹5,466 at 8%, ₹4,882 at 10%, and about ₹4,347 at 12%. This exercise helps you set practical expectations and add funds that align with your risk appetite and long-term goals.

Things to Consider While Using a Mutual Fund Calculator for SIP Investments

Inflation: Inflation reduces real purchasing power over time.

Taxes: Equity and debt funds attract capital gains tax, which lowers actual returns.
