5 Things to Know About the Shop Your Way 5321 Card
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LInkedIn

The $0-annual-fee Shop Your Way 5321 Visa Credit Card — issued by First Bank & Trust — earns elevated rewards in valuable spending categories, including 5% back on gas and 3% back on groceries, dining and travel.

Those are competitive rates in popular categories. The problem, however, is that mere weeks after the card’s debut in November 2025, it unceremoniously stopped accepting applications from the general public. For the moment, if you want to apply, you’ll need an invitation.

What’s more, the card lacks the kind of upfront incentives you’d expect to find on other rewards credit cards: Currently, there’s no welcome bonus for all new applicants, nor is there an intro APR period. It’s also worth noting that the rewards you earn with the Shop Your Way 5321 card have low individual value. On the plus side, you get a lot of them, but it still might require doing more math than you’d like when you’re ready to redeem. A general, non-branded cash-back credit card might be more straightforward and offer greater flexibility.

Here’s what to know about the Shop Your Way 5321 credit card.

🤓Nerdy Tip

The Shop Your Way 5321 Card is separate from, but related to, the previously offered Shop Your Way Mastercard. That original Citi-issued card was discontinued in 2025, and cardholders were automatically moved to the Citi ThankYou Mastercard. To get the new Shop Your Way 5321 card, you must apply for it directly, even if you had the previous version.

1. Its rewards categories are useful

The Shop Your Way Card earns cash back in the form of Shop Your Way points. Here’s what cardholders get:

5% back on eligible gas, EV charging and everyday transportation purchases, including public transit, taxis, rideshare, car washes, parking and tolls.

3% back on dining, groceries and travel, including airfare, hotels, cruises, car rental, timeshares and travel agencies.

2% back on eligible Shop Your Way merchant purchases, including Sears, Kmart, Home Depot, Macy’s, Walmart, Walgreens, among thousands of other popular brands.

1% back on all other purchases.

The card’s 5x and 3x categories cover a wide range of everyday purchases that will fit most spending budgets. Plus, those elevated rewards are uncapped.

While the card’s bonus categories are useful, keeping track of them can require some effort. If juggling multiple categories isn’t your speed, consider a flat-rate cash back card, like the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card, for example.

The $0-annual-fee card earns an unlimited 2% cash back on eligible purchases. And those rewards can be redeemed for statement credit or direct deposit into a Wells Fargo checking or savings account. It also comes with a welcome bonus and the following introductory interest-free window: 0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 18.49%, 24.49%, or 28.49% Variable APR.

2. Points have low value, but you get a lot of them

As mentioned above, rewards are earned not as cash back, but as a percentage back in points. And with the card, every 1,000 points is equal to $1 that can be redeemed. This means that each point is worth 0.1 cent each, which is considerably lower than the industry standard of a full penny per point.

That said, the card does award more points per dollar than most others do. For Instance, “1% back in points” equals 10 points per dollar spent, and “5% back in points” equals 50 points per dollar spent.

3. Redemption options are flexible, for a co-branded card

Shop Your Way points earned with the 5321 Visa card can be redeemed for statement credit toward your card balance, or toward in-store or online Shop Your Way purchases and gift cards.

Note that to redeem for statement credit, you must have a minimum of 5,000 points (which is the equivalent of $5). Additionally, points expire one year after they’re earned, at the end of the calendar year.

Most branded retail cards limit redemptions to brand or partner purchases, so the ability to redeem for statement credit adds flexibility for Shop Your Way cardholders.

Still, general travel or cash-back cards can offer even more redemption options, such as direct deposit, travel bookings and more.

4. Additional perks are lacking

Beyond its rewards on spending and its Visa network protections, the card won’t get you much else in the way of perks.

According to Shop Your Way, cardholders will receive occasional limited-time bonus offers. But it’s unclear how valuable or frequent these bonuses will be compared with those offered by the card’s predecessor.

5. Watch out for fees and interest
