Netflix Raises Subscription Costs. See New Monthly Prices.

Want to keep up with “Bridgerton,” “Virgin River” and all the other movies and TV shows on Netflix? Be prepared to pay a bit more.

The streaming giant has announced a price increase, its first since January 2025, which comes a day after Netflix delivered MLB’s Opening Day game between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants.

Netflix will increase the monthly price of its ad-supported tier by $1 to $8.99 per month, according to plans and pricing listed on the streamer’s online Help Center. The ad-free plans will increase by $2 a month.

Netflix currently has more than 325 million paying subscribers, the company said in January. A month ago, Netflix dropped its attempt to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery after declining to match Paramount Skydance’s bid.

Still, the streamer is riding high after winning three Oscars for “Frankenstein” and two for “KPop Demon Hunters” at the Academy Awards earlier this month. Netflix also recently announced a sequel to the animated “KPop Demon Hunters.”

Netflix to Increase Prices

New Netflix members who sign up will see the new monthly prices starting March 26. Over the coming weeks, current members will be notified by email a month before the new prices go into effect for them, Netflix said in a statement. (The exact timing depends on the specific member’s billing cycle.)

Here are Netflix’s subscription tiers, monthly prices and features:

The standard tier with advertisements: The price increases to $8.99, up from $7.99. (You can watch in HD and most movies, TV shows and games are available. Watch and download on 2 supported devices at a time.)
The standard ad-free tier: $19.99 per month, up from $17.99. (Watch in HD, unlimited ad-free movies, TV shows, and games. Watch and download on 2 supported devices at a time. Option to add one extra member who doesn’t live with you.)
The premium tier: $26.99 per month, up from $22.99. (Watch in 4K + HDR, unlimited ad-free movies, TV shows, and games with spatial audio. Watch on 4 supported devices and download on 6 at a time. Option to add up to two extra members who don’t live with you.)

Extra Member Add-On Costs Rise Too

Adding an extra non-household member to your plan also increases by $1 – adding an extra member to a plan with ads is now $7.99, and adding one to other plans is $9.99.

Netflix notes that its recent and upcoming films, shows and events include “BTS: Comeback Concert” and a documentary “BTS: The Return” (March 27); “Apex” starring Charlize Theron (April 24); a new film adaptation of “Narnia” (December); and Season 2 of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (coming later this year). There are also sports events such as WWE and the upcoming Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov boxing match (April 11). Netflix will also broadcast MLB’s Home Run Derby on July 13, followed by the “Field Of Dreams” game on Aug. 13.

“We know members have never had more choices in entertainment and we’re committed to delivering an experience that meets and exceeds their expectations,” Netflix said in a statement to USA TODAY.
