Ferrari Launches NFT Car Collection – Receives Massive Criticism
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LInkedIn

In the past few months, the global non-fungible token market has evolved from a speculative art to a utility-driven ecosystem focused on digital ownership, identity, and real-world use cases like gaming, ticketing, and credentialing, with growth in other areas such as AI, real-world assets, and fractional ownership. Unfortunately, Ferrari is yet to notice this big reality and has gone ahead to launch a digital hypercar that will only exist just a non-fungible token collection.

Ferrari Launches NFT Car Collection

In an October 27 publication, Reuters confirmed Ferrari has launched a non-fungible token series called F76. The Ferrari F76 is a non-fungible token collection that takes the form of a concept car. This NFT collection is created to pay tribute to Ferrari’s first Le Mans win in 1949, 76 years ago. While introducing its non-fungible token project, the motor sport company, Ferrari, explained:

The F76 is not a production car, but a pioneering virtual project that combines Ferrari’s racing tradition with the innovation of generative design and digital technologies, opening a new frontier in the brand experience. Designed for clients of the exclusive Hyperclub programme, the F76 is one of the digital assets of the initiative created by the Maranello-based company to support the 499P competing at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship, allowing clients to experience this journey alongside the official team.

Ferrari is an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer renowned for producing high-performance, elegant, and expensive cars and for its legendary success in motorsports, particularly Formula 1, where it is the oldest and most successful racing team. Ferrari is not new to NFTs and has been offering NFTs to its most exclusive clientele since at least 2022. Ferrari offered NFTs as part of its Hyperclub program, though on a private and limited basis.

Ferrari Receives Massive Criticism

Ferrari has received massive criticism from crypto and non-fungible token communities shortly after announcing the launch of its latest non-fungible token collection. The majority of crypto and NFT traders have maintained that Ferrari is outdated for launching a non-fungible token series that isn’t a real car, or even a real, physical concept. Many argue that Ferrari should understand that the global non-fungible token market has evolved from a speculative art to a utility-driven ecosystem.

guys youre about 3 years late to the nft hype

Ferrari NFT launch appears just a few days after BMW, its competitor in the luxury car making, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collaborated for BMW’s “Apecar,” special experiences at the annual ApeFest events in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The vehicle was built on a BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupé and featured a custom ape-inspired exterior design by a BAYC artist named Rida.

Vegas to LA. 6 hours, 3 playlists, too many snack stops, and Ape fam. 🫶🏻Just good music, dumb jokes, and a BMW that made every mile feel like a memory. No plans. Just vibes. 🏎️🏁👀@BoredApeYC x @BMW #BMW #BAYC pic.twitter.com/sglDnhsk92
