Understanding your Explanation of Benefits (EOB)

If you’re a member of an Independence Blue Cross (IBX) health plan — or any other health plan — you will occasionally get a letter or an email from your insurer with a document that says, in all capital letters, “THIS IS NOT A BILL.” So, if it’s not a bill…what is it?

Meet Your EOB

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) breaks down the exact costs every time you receive care. IBX recently changed the design of our EOBs to make them easier than ever to understand. You’ll see how much the health care provider charged, what your health plan covered, and how much (if anything) you’ll pay out of pocket.
