ChipNL Competence Centre, an initiative aimed at driving growth within the Dutch semiconductor sector, has been officially launched.
The ChipNL Competence Centre includes partners such as Brainport Development, ChipTech Twente, High Tech NL, imec the Netherlands, JePPIX, Oost NL, TNO, and Eindhoven University of Technology.
The funding comes from the European Union and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
How does it benefit companies?
The ChipNL Competence Centre focuses on several key areas to support the chip industry.
It facilitates access to European pilot lines for testing and validating chip solutions and develops an innovative design platform.
The Centre also implements talent programs to enhance skills within the sector. Additionally, it offers support for accessing financing and building networks and partnerships.
Lastly, it aims to increase the international visibility of Dutch companies and assist them in entering new markets.
This development is expected to boost investment opportunities for startups and smaller companies in semiconductor technology.
“By connecting companies, knowledge institutions and regions, we create better access to talent, facilities and funding. This gives our chip sector the tools to grow faster and strengthen the Dutch economy in a sustainable way. The ChipNL Competence Centre demonstrates the strength of our national ecosystem,” says Vincent Karremans, Minister of Economic Affairs.
Focus on technological domains
The ChipNL Competence Centre focuses on technological domains in which the Netherlands leads or has strong growth potential, such as:
Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment (lithography, etching, metrology)Chip Design for diverse applications (e.g. automotive, medical technology)Heterogeneous integration & packaging for powerful, compact systems (AI, 5G, etc.)Photonics and quantum technology, including chips that use light for data processing or advanced sensing applications.
Elly Zwartkruis, Managing Director of the ChipNL Competence Centre, adds, “Our objective is to bolster the international standing of the Dutch chip sector while supporting companies of all sizes in their development. The ChipNL Competence Centre serves as a hub where expertise, entrepreneurship, and innovation converge.”
