ScoutinScience, a Dutch AI-powered platform specialising in research valorisation and innovation strategy, has raised nearly €1M in growth funding.

The company uses artificial intelligence to scan scientific publications and identify technology transfer opportunities for universities, corporations, and investors.

The funding round included follow-on support from 819 Capital and contributions from several angel investors with backgrounds in AI, academic research, and corporate R&D.

Scouting for innovation

ScoutinScience has operated since 2020, delivering services to technology transfer offices, universities, governments, and corporations. It offers AI-powered technology scouting, ecosystem analysis, and innovation strategy development.

ScoutinScience’s platform provides a comprehensive dashboard for discovering research across fields, universities, and countries. Users can create tailored searches, explore specific topics, and apply advanced filters such as TRL levels, SDG alignment, patent origins, and contributions by research groups or regions, streamlining the research discovery process.

The European Commission has recognised ScoutinScience’s research valorisation work as a practice worth following on two occasions. The company serves clients in Germany, Austria, Ireland, and the Netherlands while maintaining partnerships across more than 10 countries.

ScoutinScience was founded after identifying that 80 per cent of research within universities was overlooked. The company began with a pilot programme at a Netherlands-based university and has since expanded to serve universities, government agencies, and investors worldwide.

The team consists of professionals with backgrounds in science, innovation, and technology transfer. They use AI technology and data analysis to identify technology opportunities in research, aiming to increase innovations and social impact.

ScoutinScience collaborates with universities in Ireland, Germany, Slovenia, and other European countries. The company focuses on shaping innovation development across Europe and works to unlock research potential within institutions.

Capital utilisation

The funding will be used to support ScoutinScience’s business development across three key areas: expanding into new European markets, advancing proprietary measurement systems, and enhancing services in technology scouting, matchmaking, and strategic reporting.

Gilles Meijer, CEO of ScoutinScience, says, “This round reflects the increasing demand from universities and public research institutions to unlock the value of their scientific output in a strategic, data-driven way. We’re excited to scale our reach and deepen the insights we provide around real-world impact.”
