My wife is an avid reader, and I’m constantly hearing about some of the most highly anticipated books. Summer 2025 is shaping up to be a literary feast, with a diverse array of novels set to captivate readers. From thrilling debuts to eagerly awaited sequels, there’s something for every book lover to look forward to. Whether you’re lounging on the beach or curled up in your favorite chair, these upcoming releases promise to make your summer reading list unforgettable.

1. Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid, known for her emotionally rich storytelling, ventures into new territory with Atmosphere. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s NASA space program, this novel intertwines a space thriller with a poignant love story. Reid’s exploration of ambition, love, and the human spirit has already garnered attention, with a theatrical adaptation in the works. Fans of her previous works, like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, will find familiar depth in this latest offering.

2. Gone Before Goodbye by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben

In a surprising collaboration, Reese Witherspoon teams up with thriller maestro Harlan Coben for Gone Before Goodbye. While this one is technically making its debut after summer, many people will be anticipating its release. The story follows Maggie McCabe, a former Army combat surgeon whose life spirals after losing her medical license. Drawn into a shadowy world of elite medicine, Maggie uncovers a dangerous conspiracy that forces her to go on the run. This suspense-filled narrative marks Witherspoon’s debut in the thriller genre, promising a gripping read.

3. The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong

Ocean Vuong returns with The Emperor of Gladness, a novel that delves into themes of chosen family, unexpected friendship, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. The narrative centers on Hai, a young gay Vietnamese-American man navigating the complexities of identity and community. Vuong’s lyrical prose and emotional depth are expected to resonate with readers seeking a profound literary experience.

4. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

Fans of The Hunger Games series have reason to rejoice with the release of Sunrise on the Reaping. This prequel delves into the backstory of Haymitch Abernathy, exploring the events that shaped the mentor we came to know in the original trilogy. Suzanne Collins’ return to Panem promises to expand the universe and provide deeper insights into its complex characters.

5. Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

Emily Henry, beloved for her contemporary romances, offers a fresh narrative with Great Big Beautiful Life. While details are under wraps, the novel is anticipated to blend Henry’s signature wit and heartfelt storytelling. Readers can expect a tale that explores the intricacies of love, life, and personal growth.

6. The Girls Who Grew Big by Leila Mottley

Leila Mottley’s The Girls Who Grew Big centers on a group of teenage mothers who, exiled from their communities, come together to support one another during a pivotal time in their lives. Mottley’s narrative challenges societal perceptions of young motherhood, offering a compassionate and nuanced portrayal. This novel is poised to spark meaningful conversations and resonate with a wide audience.

7. The Possession of Alba Díaz by Isabel Cañas

Isabel Cañas brings a supernatural twist to historical fiction with The Possession of Alba Díaz. Set in a Mexican silver mine, the story follows a young woman who becomes possessed by a demonic presence and must rely on an unlikely ally to survive. Cañas’ blend of horror and history promises a chilling and immersive read.
