Shaping the Future of the Digital Workplace: Meet Christy Punch
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LInkedIn

As a Millennial, I’ve grown up surrounded by technology. Some of my earliest memories are of sliding a giant floppy disk into my family’s Apple II and playing pixelated computer games before I could fully read or write.

I learned early that I loved solving problems with technology. That curiosity grew into a career path after earning a computer engineering degree and an MBA from Clemson University, where I realized my passion wasn’t just about technology itself – it was about solving business challenges through it.

In September, I joined Forrester as a Principal Analyst on the Technology Architecture & Delivery (TA&D) research team, focusing on digital workplace and digital employee experience (DEX). I’m excited to help Forrester’s clients align technology strategies with business goals to reimagine the employee experience and deliver measurable business value.

Where did you work prior to Forrester?

I’ve spent my career as a practitioner leading digital workplace and DEX strategy at Fortune 500 companies across the energy and financial services industries, including SCANA Corp. (now Dominion Energy), Wells Fargo, and Liberty Mutual.

Working in regulated industries taught me that risk management and governance aren’t barriers to innovation, but enablers. I learned that true modernization requires cross-functional alignment, where leaders understand the importance of measuring technology not just by its performance, but by the end-to-end experiences it creates for employees.

The organizations I’ve served all carried more than 100 years of history and culture, which reinforced for me the importance of approaching technology with a human-centered lens. This mindset has shaped my ability to influence change and drive adoption throughout my career.

How did you get involved in Digital Workplace and DEX?

Early in my career, I raised my hand to lead a redesign of a clunky, custom-built intranet – with no budget. That project gave me the chance to wear many hats: strategist, UX, business analyst, trainer, and communicator. Seeing the impact of connecting frontline employees to the organization through technology gave me purposeful work. And hearing employees share how the change improved their daily experience sealed my passion for DEX.

That passion has grown into an active voice in the digital workplace space. Over the years, I’ve continuously learned through research, case studies, and conversations with peers. I’ve been fortunate to pay it forward by sharing lessons learned at digital workplace conferences, on podcasts, and across professional forums.

Why Forrester?

Forrester’s research has long been a trusted resource throughout my career, strengthening my strategies and helping me earn stakeholder buy-in. Driven by the guidance & encouragement from mentors, I came to see that I had already been acting as an analyst – educating executives on trends, shaping technology strategies, and ensuring measurable returns on investments. Joining Forrester felt like a natural next step, and I’m looking forward to bringing my practitioner perspective and passion for digital workplace transformation to our clients, partners and research.

What will be your research focus?

In my role, I’ll focus on digital workplace and digital employee experience (DEX) strategy and technology. My research will help leaders align enterprise digital strategies with business goals to boost productivity, drive efficiencies, mitigate risk, and ensure technology ROI.  As I ramp up, I’ll be digging into recent research, collaborating with colleagues, and sharpening my priorities.

Topics that are currently top of mind:

Balancing Build vs. Buy in the AI-Powered Digital Workplace – AI is amplifying both the promise and pitfalls of digital workplace tools. IT leaders will need to rethink the build vs. buy equation to ensure investments drive adoption and business outcomes. I’ll also be leading a roundtable on this topic at Forrester’s Technology & Innovation Summit (North America) later this year.
Tool Rationalization: From Sprawl to Strategy – Fragmented toolsets drain productivity and inflate costs. Sprawl needs to be addressed with tech value rationalization and smarter investments, backed by real-time experience insights.
Secure, Scalable Architectural Foundations – The digital workplace must be flexible, modular, and governed, with a foundation that enables integration and responsible scaling.
Intelligent Experience Touchpoints – Employees need seamless, context-aware experiences that anticipate their needs and adapt in real time. The rise of AI is unlocking hyper-personalization, autonomous task execution, and perceptive interfaces that span tools and devices across both digital and physical (“phygital”) environments.
DEX for the Frontline – Frontline employees face unique challenges, from device constraints to high turnover. Industries like retail, healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing must invest in technology and experiences that improve frontline engagement, productivity, and retention.

What else should we know about you?

I live in Charleston, South Carolina, where I’m active in the local community as an advocate for dog rescue, fostering pups for local organizations. I also love to travel – adventures like a road trip through New Zealand and a safari in South Africa rank among my most life-changing experiences. And when I’m not exploring new places, you’ll often find me at the front row of Gwen Stefani concerts – one of my favorite ways to recharge.
