Canopy Expands Tax Workflow With AI-Powered Tax Preparation Through New Filed Integration

SALT LAKE CITY, January 15, 2026 — Canopy, the leading all-in-one practice management platform for accounting firms, today announced the addition of AI-powered tax preparation to its software platform through a new integration with Filed.

Canopy’s new Smart Prep, powered by Filed dramatically accelerates the journey from completed client intake to review-ready tax returns. By embedding tax preparation directly into the Canopy workflow, firms can reduce handoffs, minimize rekeying, and maintain visibility across the entire tax process – all within Canopy.

This release builds on Canopy’s Smart Intake, which firms already use to collect documents, automate client reminders, and ensure complete, accurate information before tax work begins. With the Filed integration, firms can carry that structured data forward into tax preparation, without breaking their workflow or changing the tax software they rely on.

“Tax prep slows down when client information has to be manually translated into tax software,” said Hanna Bjornn, VP of Product at Canopy. “Filed handles the most time-consuming parts of tax prep, and by embedding it directly into Canopy, we connect intake, preparation, and review into one continuous workflow. That compression allows firms to move faster, increase output, and scale capacity without adding staff.”

“Canopy is connecting the steps of tax work in a way that genuinely reduces friction for firms,” said Leroy Kerry, CEO at Filed. “We’re excited to bring Filed directly into the Canopy workflow so teams can accelerate preparation, improve consistency through review, and ultimately create more room for advisory—without disrupting the systems they already trust.”

The integration is currently in pilot and will be made available more broadly after the 2026 tax season. During the pilot phase, participating firms can initiate AI-powered tax preparation once Smart Intake (or any other tax intake workflow) is complete, review for accuracy, and monitor progress without leaving Canopy. The initial launch will include basic and advanced 1040 returns, with expanded return types coming later in the year.
