Meet Heidi Hallmark: A Bookkeeper Helping Women Find Peace of Mind in Their Finances

One of my favorite things to do is highlight women who have taken their gifts and used them to build meaningful, flexible businesses from home. Today, I’m excited to share the story of Heidi Hallmark, the founder of Hygge Bookkeeping.

Heidi’s path hasn’t always been easy. She’s a single mom who raised triplets while running her own business. But her story is filled with perseverance, practical wisdom, and encouragement for any mom who has ever wondered if she could really work from home.

Turning a Calling Into a Career

Heidi is a bookkeeper who specializes in supporting women who run small businesses. She organizes their financial records, makes sure everything is clear and accessible, and helps them align their money decisions with both their professional and personal goals.

“I love giving women peace of mind when it comes to their finances,” Heidi explains. “When we work together, it’s not just about keeping books in order. It’s about helping them build a business and a life that truly support their goals.”

She also guides her clients through implementing the Profit First method, a powerful approach to managing cash flow that ensures women pay themselves first and run their businesses with intention.

Why She Chose to Work From Home

Heidi’s “why” is deeply personal. She’s a single mom of triplets who are now 18 years old.

“When my kids were little, I wanted to homeschool them and still provide for our family,” she says. “Working from home allowed me to do both.”

What began as a way to make ends meet and stay close to her kids has now grown into a six-figure business. And, with her children stepping into adulthood, Heidi’s next dream is for her business to support her as she travels across the U.S.

Facing Her Biggest Fear

Starting a business came with its share of challenges, but one of Heidi’s biggest hurdles was networking.

“As an introvert, walking into a business event used to make me so anxious and sweaty,” she admits. “I don’t think it ever gets easier, but I’ve learned to accept it as part of the process.”

Her advice? “The best way to overcome fear is to get comfortable being uncomfortable.” Over the years, those handshakes and conversations opened doors she never could have imagined. And now, thanks to Zoom and online communities, networking is more accessible than ever.

The Secret to Her Success

When asked what made the biggest difference in her journey, Heidi doesn’t point to a tool or strategy first. She points to perseverance.

“Never, never, never give up,” she says firmly. “The women who succeed in business are the ones who decide to keep going, no matter what.”

Through highs and lows, Heidi kept showing up, and that persistence has allowed her to build a thriving business with low overhead and consistent six-figure income, all as a solo entrepreneur.

A Peek Into Heidi’s Days

These days, Heidi’s schedule looks very different from the hustle of her early years.

She usually starts her workday around 8 a.m. and wraps up by early afternoon. Fridays are often reserved for rest, unless a big project demands her attention, and she enjoys taking time off mid-month.

This balance is intentional. Her business serves her life, not the other way around.

Advice for Other Moms

For moms who dream of starting their own business and being a woman entrepreneur, but feel unsure, Heidi’s encouragement is heartfelt:

“Reach out to other moms who have gone before you. Don’t doubt yourself. You CAN do this. And when you reach out, you’ll find an army of women who will surround you with support.”

She also offers practical advice for anyone considering hiring a bookkeeper: Choose a bank that offers read-only access so your bookkeeper can securely pull your statements each month. Also, while QuickBooks Online is her go-to tool, she warns against using it for payroll or banking.

Heidi’s story is a powerful reminder that flexibility, persistence, and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone can open doors to a life you love. Whether you’re just starting out or deep in the messy middle, her journey proves that it’s possible to build a business that works for your family and supports your dreams.
