How to Find Walmart Hidden Clearance and Save Big!

If you love saving money and/or Walmart deals, there’s a secret treasure hunt waiting for you — Walmart Hidden Clearance Items!

The following is a guest post by Todd Hebert of Yes We Coupon.

What is Walmart Hidden Clearance?

Walmart Hidden Clearance refers to items that have been significantly discounted in Walmart’s system but not updated on the shelf tags.

You might see a toy priced at $29.88 on the shelf — but when you scan it at a register or using the Walmart app, it could actually cost $7 or less!

Walmart employees often don’t have time to update every tag immediately, especially in larger stores. Savvy shoppers can take advantage of this delay to score deep discounts before they are officially marked down for the general public.

How Does Hidden Clearance Work at Walmart?

Most people walk past incredible deals every day without realizing it. Walmart often discounts items without updating the price tags on the shelves, meaning some products are way cheaper than they appear.

With a little bit of insider knowledge and some simple tools, you can unlock major savings every time you shop. Here’s a full guide to finding Walmart Hidden Clearance Items & Deals to maximize your savings!

How to Find Walmart Hidden Clearance: Step-by-Step

1. Download and Use the Walmart App

This is the #1 tool for finding hidden clearance! Here’s what to do:

Download the free Walmart app from the App Store or Google Play.

Enable location services so the app knows which Walmart you are in.

Use the barcode scanner feature inside the app to scan item tags as you shop.

When you scan an item, the app will show you the current price in that specific store. If the price in the app is lower than the shelf tag, you’ll pay the lower price at checkout!

Pro Tip: Always make sure the app is set to “in-store” mode for your correct location, not “pickup” or “shipping.”

2. Don’t Just Stick to the Clearance Aisle

While the clearance sections can have good deals, most of the true hidden clearance items are still located in their original departments.

When hunting for hidden clearance deals:

Check top shelves and bottom shelves — where less popular stock sits.

Look at end caps (the ends of aisles), which often hold clearance that blends in.

Browse seasonal aisles after major holidays for hidden discounts.

Search random spots like electronics, toys, baby items, and home goods.

Remember, if it looks out of place, mismatched, or low in stock, it’s worth a scan!

3. Learn the Pricing Clues

Not all clearance is hidden, but there are little hints in the prices if you know what to look for:

Prices ending in .00 or .01 — usually indicate the final markdown and may soon be removed from the floor.

Prices ending in .03, .07, or .08 — may hint that the item is in a clearance cycle and could drop further.

Keep in mind that hidden clearance prices may not even match these endings — scanning with the app is your best bet!

4. Remember: Timing Matters!

Certain times of year bring bigger opportunities to find hidden clearance:

After Holidays: Within 1–2 days after Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day, hidden clearance deals explode across stores.

Season Changes: At the end of summer and winter, look for clearance on clothing, patio furniture, heaters, fans, and more.

End of School Year: Office supplies, backpacks, and electronics like Chromebooks often hit clearance around May and June.

January & July: Walmart often clears out inventory during these months, offering hidden clearance across departments.

Shopping early in the morning gives you the best shot before other shoppers grab the best deals.

5. Follow Deal Communities

Finding hidden clearance on your own is rewarding, but why not let a community of deal hunters help you, too? Here are some tips on finding Walmart Hidden Clearance deals:

Bonus Tips for Walmart Hidden Clearance Success

Check Frequently: Even if you’re running into Walmart for just a gallon of milk, do a quick scan through the aisles.

Be Respectful: Some stores may have policies about customers “hiding” items for later purchase. Be mindful and courteous to employees and other shoppers.

Double Check at Checkout: If you found a hidden clearance item but it rings up wrong, nicely ask for a price check. The app price usually prevails, but having screenshots can help.

Finding Walmart Hidden Clearance is like going on a treasure hunt — and the payoff can be huge! From snagging toys for pennies to upgrading home essentials for a fraction of the price, hidden clearance is a secret weapon for frugal shoppers.

By using the Walmart app, knowing where to look, understanding price clues, timing your trips right, and following deal-hunting communities, you can turn every Walmart trip into a money-saving adventure!
