Each spring, we celebrate Mother’s Day by announcing the most popular names parents give their new arrivals. Today, we released 2025’s Top 10 names for girls and boys drawn from Social Security card applications nationwide. The list also reveals the names that increased the most in popularity, timeless favorites, fast climbers, and a few bold debuts.
A Tradition with Deep Roots
Social Security began compiling a list of popular baby names in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. When children are born, parents provide their chosen name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card. As a result, Social Security is America’s source for the most popular baby names.
