Veterans Day honors current and former members of the armed forces and the sacrifices they’ve made for our country. This year, it falls on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Since Veterans Day is a federal holiday, many businesses and banks close to observe it. If you have errands to run this week, you may be wondering: Are banks closed on Veterans Day? Here’s everything you need to know.

Are Banks Closed on Veterans Day?

Yes, most banks will be closed on Veterans Day 2025, including Bank of America, Capital One, Chase Bank, and Wells Fargo. However, some financial institutions may still operate select branches.

In previous years, HSBC, Citizens Bank, and Truist (formerly SunTrust) have remained open on Veterans Day. TD Bank, known for staying open on many federal holidays, will close for Veterans Day in 2025. To avoid surprises, it’s best to call ahead and confirm your local branch’s hours—even if they’ve been open on holidays in the past.

Are Credit Unions Closed on Veterans Day?

Yes, most credit unions will also be closed on Veterans Day. They typically follow the same federal holiday schedule as banks, so plan accordingly.

Online Banking is Still Available

Even if your local branch is closed, online banking and mobile apps remain accessible. You can still:

Deposit checksTransfer fundsPay billsCheck your balanceUse drive-thru ATMs

However, if you encounter issues with your bank’s app or need to speak with a representative, customer service may be unavailable or limited on the holiday.

Also, keep in mind: electronic transfers are routed through the Federal Reserve, which is closed on Veterans Day. This means:

Online transactions may take longer to processDeposited checks may take an extra day to clear

Plan ahead to avoid delays in your financial tasks.

Bank Holidays 2025

Veterans Day isn’t the only holiday banks and credit unions observe. Most branches will also close for these federal holidays:

New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, January 20Presidents’ Day – Monday, February 17Memorial Day – Monday, May 26Juneteenth – Thursday, June 19Fourth of July – Friday, July 4Labor Day – Monday, September 1Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Monday, October 13Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 27Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Some banks may also close early or operate with limited hours on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and Black Friday.

Remember: banks aren’t required to close on federal holidays. For example, TD Bank often stays open on Presidents’ Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. So if you need to handle an urgent financial task, you may still have options.

Veterans Day is a time to honor those who’ve served, and many banks and credit unions observe the holiday by closing their doors. While most branches will be closed, online banking tools and ATMs remain available. Just be aware of processing delays due to Federal Reserve closures. If you need in-person service, check your bank’s holiday hours in advance to avoid disruptions.
