AI Tool of the Week: How Bonnie is saving restaurants from “Sorry, I Missed Your Call” disasters

Voice AI is transforming several industries by making communication more efficient and accessible.

From customer service to healthcare, thousands of businesses globally are integrating AI-powered voice assistants to handle calls, provide automated responses, and streamline operations.

Whether it’s helping a bank answer customer queries or assisting patients in booking appointments, voice assistants powered by AI are transforming the way businesses interact with people.

One sector that greatly benefits from Voice AI is hospitality.

Restaurants, in particular, often struggle with managing phone reservations while serving guests. This is where Bonnie, a Voice AI platform, steps in.

In this edition of “AI tool of the week,” we spotlight — Bonnie, an AI voice assistant platform, designed to solve a long-standing hospitality challenge.

Meet Bonnie: The AI Telephone Assistant for Local Businesses

Bonnie is an AI telephone assistant designed for local businesses. Available 24/7, the platform manages all inbound calls and texts.

The platform syncs with essential tools like CRMs and booking systems, enhancing customer interactions and optimising workflows.

For restaurants, Bonnie offers various features, including:

24/7 availability

Efficient reservation and event management

Seamless system integration

Call transfers and notifications

Connect to any phone system

Reduced stress in the restaurant

For general SMBs, the platform offers advantages, including:

Smart call triaging & transfers

Seamless system integration

Automated text follow-ups

Connect to any phone system

How does voice AI solve challenges in hospitality?

The majority of guest interactions still happen over the phone.

In reality, it’s nearly impossible for restaurants to answer every call immediately, especially during peak hours.

As a result, calls go unanswered, leading to lost reservations and missed revenue.

For years, this was considered an unavoidable trade-off: either focus on serving guests in the restaurant or pick up the phone.

Bonnie for restaurants

Bonnie is built specifically for restaurants, integrating seamlessly with reservation systems and other hospitality platforms.

Guests who have booked online and called the restaurant are instantly recognised and assisted, no waiting is required.

Take Ron Gastrobar as an example. Since implementing Bonnie—now enhanced with the Ron Blaauw voice clone — Ronnie, the restaurant has achieved incredible results.

Callers to Ron Gastrobar are now greeted directly by the voice of chef Ron Blaauw himself.

According to the company’s claims, over 500 hours of calls were handled, 4,000 reservations were processed, and real-time WhatsApp support to boot.

Bonnie not only streamlines operations but ensures the in-house team can focus on delivering top-notch hospitality.

For restaurant owners, Bonnie is tailored to each venue, incorporating knowledge of the location, menu, parking options, and common guest inquiries.

By integrating with platforms like Zenchef, Formitable, Guestplan, and MICE Operations, the Voice AI functions as a 24/7 digital team member, handling reservations and guest requests in real-time.

“We’ve spent 1.5 years developing Bonnie together with leading hospitality groups. With ‘Ronnie’, we’re officially bringing our Voice AI technology to the world. This is just the beginning of what AI can do for restaurants,” says Mark Bender, Co-Founder Bonnie.
